Lopez Group chair led over 5,000 people in the 5-km walkathon for Education  Lopez Group chair Oscar M. Lopez and Manila City Mayor Lito Atienza led over 5,000 people in the 5-km walkathon held by the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) from the Rizal Park in Manila to the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City .

The walkathon event dubbed Lakad Mo , Pangarap Ko 2, Nationwide na to' is a fund-raiser to bring educational TV to public schools nationwide and to help cope with the public school's system's teacher shortage. Two other walkathons were simultaneously held in Cebu and Davao led by ABS - CBN top honchos, chairman Eugenio Gabby Lopez , Jr. in Cebu and president Luis Alejandro in Davao .

KCFI provides more public schools with access to Knowledge Channel, a curriculum-based educational channel available on cable and by satellite. The first Lakad Mo, Pangarap Ko in 2004 raised P7 million in cash and kind adding 27 more schools, that is 20,000 more beneficiaries for the channel.

More funds are needed to connect even more schools to the system. There are over 40,000 public schools in the country and this shows that much work remains to be done.

KCFI president Rina Lopez-Bautista thanked Manila City Mayor and all the participants for helping public school students gain access to quality education material that have been empirically shown to improve learning and performance.

With the country struggling against poverty for the last 30 years, quality education is the recognized key to poverty alleviation. The Knowledge Channel Foundation believes that quality education is the key to eradicating poverty in the country.

F ounded in 1999, KCFI is a non-stock, non-profit organization that aims to give public schools all over the country free access to the Knowledge Channel (i.e. cable public schools with access to a local cable provider and/or install satellite technology to remote areas unreachable by cable). It provides reference materials, trains teachers on TV-assisted instruction and orients school administrators on the benefit of the channel.

As of end-2004, KCFI has conducted 65 Teacher Training modules involving 6,136 participants, 81 Principal Orientation seminars for 7,526 participants. A total of 2.6 million students in 1,400 schools from as far as Batanes to Sitangkay already have access to Knowledge Channel.
