FPHC is a holding company engaged in infrastructure development, with core business in power generation and distribution, and strategic initiatives in manufacturing, construction and engineering services, and property development.

The ABLA 2004 recognizes individuals who have successfully led their companies in today's ever-changing business landscape and lay the foundations for their organizations in the years to come.

ABLA was launched in 2001 and is organized and presented by CNBC and TNT International Express, and co-hosted by China Business Network (CBN). The awards is the only premiere regional business event of its kind and is a tribute to Asia's outstanding CEOs who have demonstrated superior leadership skills in managing highly successful businesses not only in their respective countries, but across the region as well.

In its third year, the theme for this year award is "Defining Success through Leadership". The premiere business event will include the main Awards event and dinner as well as a Summit with top CEOs to share their views and to discuss the importance of leadership in these challenging times.

This year, the judging process was led by a team of two academics from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business - professor of accounting Mark E Zmijewski, dean of executive MBA programs Leon Carroll Marshall and associate dean for part time MBA Programs William W Kooser.

The judging process has been divided into three phases. In phase one, the team of academics has compiled quantitative company data of 5,500 companies to bring out the top performers from across Asia and short-listed 50 candidates for the next phase.

In phase two, the 50 chief executive officers (CEOs) were interviewed for 2-3 hours long to assess the candidates' leadership qualities based on a set of criteria. Following the interviews, 20 candidates were chosen for the final round of judging. In this final phase, a distinguished independent panel of judges will come together to further shortlist 10 finalists, out of which four winners will be ultimately chosen for the following awards: The Asia Business Leader of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Corporate Citizen of the Year, and a new ABLA award category - China CEO of the Year.

To qualify, the nominee must hold the top leadership role at the company for at least two years; still be employed in that company at the time of nomination; his company should employ at least 150 staff members; and the said company's annual revenues should exceed million. The nominee's company must operate in at least one of the following countries/areas: China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
