2011
December 2011 Ready for Christmas! The panic-stricken scenarios that unfold in malls and other retail centers, especially at the approach of Christmas when everyone and his mother are caught in a frenzy of bargain-hunting and gift-hoarding, make a good case for checking out Power Plant Mall at Rockwell Center.
November 2011 Making another run at world record  “I am part of a Guinness World Record.” This slogan can be spotted emblazoned on a line of T-shirts sold at select SM branches, one of the special merchandise released in advance of 11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River organized by Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP).
October 2011 Braving new horizons  First Philippine Holdings Corporation (FPH) turned a venerable 50 in June this year, and the celebration is far from over.
On September 21, 2011, chairman Federico R. Lopez (FRL) and chairman emeritus Oscar M. Lopez (OML) waxed nostalgic at the company’s appreciation cocktails held at the Makati Shangri-La. At the same time, the evening’s theme—“Braving New Horizons”—served notice that FPH was looking ahead to the next 50 years even as it reflected on the past 50.
September 2011 A decade of Asian Eye The story of Asian Eye Institute started out as the story of two men. One was Oscar M. Lopez (OML), chairman emeritus of the Lopez Group, who for almost a decade in the 1990s had to regularly make the pilgrimage to the United States to avail of treatment for his glaucoma. The other was Dr. Felipe Tolentino, a multi-awarded Filipino-American ophthalmologist and the founder of the Ophthalmological Foundation of the Philippines.
August 2011 SilveRadyo: The silver age of DZMM When all else fails, there’s always DZMM—this is something most Filipinos know, having had DZMM prove this over and over again in the past 25 years. After all, who can forget that in the aftermath of typhoon Ondoy, DZMM was there with its Kapamilya, Shower Na, the shower-in-a-van setup that was a tremendous help in restoring the equilibrium of the famously fastidious Pinoy?
July 2011 ABS-CBN Publishings Digital Dream Meet Vault. This sleek little gem stands out in a crowded market with its 6”x9” stats and softly rounded curves. As the youngest member of the ABS-CBN Publishing (API) family, Vault is one of the springboards that will propel the company into the global market. But that’s getting ahead of the story.
June 2011 Oscar M. Lopez conquers Mt. Kinabalu It was another dream come true for Oscar M. Lopez (OML). Making things happen is in his genes. The seed took root years ago from a picture he saw of Mt. Kinabalu in Sabah, Borneo. It took shape as he was conquering the tallest peaks of Luzon (Mt. Pulag), Visayas (Mt. Kanlaon) and Mindanao (Mt. Apo).
May 2011 Lopez Holdings: Resilience in the face of adversity LAST year, Lopez Holdings Corporation underwent a couple of major changes. Previously known as Benpres Holdings Corporation, it now proudly shares the name of the family that founded it, and bears a new logo that at once recalls its rich history, expresses it forward-looking character and evokes its vision of a brighter, better future. Its financial restructuring also neared its successful conclusion.
April 2011 A tale of two buildings: The historic properties of FPRC ALTHOUGH First Philippine Realty Corporation (FPRC) isn’t one to blow its own horn, it manages two of the most historic and beloved structures that belong to the Lopez Group—Benpres Building in Ortigas and Eugenio Lopez Center in Antipolo City. These buildings hold much of the Lopez family’s history and legacies and are silent testimonies of the family’s resilience in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
March 2011 ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs: New challenges REGINA “Ging” Reyes, formerly the ABS-CBN’s North America Bureau chief, returned home to take the reins as senior vice president for News and Current Affairs. As news bureau chief, Reyes initiated change and pioneered programs in the US, which have changed the away the company delivered news and issues relevant to the Filipino community abroad.
February 2011 Gina-led revival of Paco Market: More than just a face-lift PACO Market in Manila is looking more and more like its old self. The streets are cleaner and the stalls seem to be better managed.
